In 2006, a conversation sparked what would become one of North Star Academy Laval’s most meaningful traditions. A student reflected on how unhoused individuals are often shown kindness during the holiday season, yet by February—the coldest month of the year—they are not given as much attention. In response, Head of School, Mme. Pepin, asked her students, “What do you want to do about it?”. Their answer became action. That Valentine’s Day, students, led by Mme. Pepin, visited Old Mission Brewery to distribute warm clothing, food, and hot drinks—an effort to remind those in need that they are not forgotten.
From this single act of service, NSAL Gives Back was born. What began as a small initiative has flourished into a comprehensive community service program, empowering students to become engaged citizens, cultivate empathy, and create a lasting impact. Today, NSAL Gives Back partners with various non-profit organizations to support underprivileged individuals, ensuring that our students learn through action and develop a lifelong commitment to service.
At North Star Academy Laval, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom. Through hands-on experiences like NSAL Gives Back, students learn compassion, leadership, and social responsibility—skills that will guide them in shaping a better world.
