Alaa Gaid


Mr. Gaid earned his Bachelor of Education from Ain Shams University in Egypt and he is currently a student at McGill University where he is taking courses in order to begin a Master’s program in the near future. He started working as a math teacher in 1999 and is very excited to bring all of his experience and curriculum knowledge to teaching students at North Star Academy Laval.

Over the past 19 years of teaching mathematics in Egypt and in Canada, he has taught Grades 7 to 11 Mathematics as well as Pre-Calculus for Grade 11. He piloted a new math contest with students from Peru, has had students participate in the Canadian Open Mathematics Competition, and also worked on bringing the Waterloo Contest (in Mathematics) to NSAL. His students performed very well in all of last year’s competitions and many received accolades from Waterloo University and Canada’s Open Mathematics Competitions for their high performance.

Mr. Gaid started a new position as a pedagogical leader last year which allowed him to provide support to other teachers in the mathematics department and oversee the development of the subject’s curriculum. Mr. Gaid is well known for his engaging personality and teaching style, as well as his effective classroom management approach which allows all of his students to receive the best education possible. Mr. Gaid combines all of his experience, communication skills, high expectations and passion to create a positive learning environment where students always feel motivated to work to their full potential.
